KenGen Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme & KenGen Defined Contribution Scheme (2012) are pension schemes for employees working for Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited. The two schemes are registered with RBA and the core business is to provide pension and other retirement benefits to its members and beneficiaries.

The schemes seek to fill a vacant position of Assistant Procurement Officer. The job holder will be reporting to the Trust Secretary.

1. ASSISTANT PROCUREMENT OFFFICER

Job Summary

To carry out the effective procurement of goods, works and services while ensuring that KenGen SRBS procedural and ethical policies are adhered to.

Duties and Responsibilities

The job holder’s duties and responsibilities are outlined as follows:

a) Preparation of quotations, tenders and proposals in accordance with KenGen SRBS procurement policies

b) Developing and maintaining an up to date suppliers database

c) Maintaining and monitoring contracts by ensuring that all documents are kept current and complete and that vendor performance is in line with agreed requirements.

d) Analyzing purchase requests from the user departments, and forwarding them to the Trust Secretary for action.

e) Notifying user departments of re-order levels for items purchased in bulk

f) Preparing and processing purchase orders and documents in accordance with scheme’s policies and procedures.

g) Maintaining a comprehensive record–keeping and monitoring system for all procurement transactions and liaising with relevant user departments on disposal of obsolete and scrap materials.

h) Supporting  the  Trust  Secretary  in  the  preparation  of  monthly,  quarterly/annual  procurement plans/reports.

i) Maintaining business relationships with vendors and suppliers

j) Any other duties as may be assigned by supervisor

Job Specifications

The job holder must possess:

a) A Degree in Procurement or A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce/Business Management with a bias in procurement.

b) A post graduate training and relevant certification in Procurement either by CIPS, KISM or KNEC.

c) At least five-years work experience in a similar role.

d) Be conversant with the Public Procurement Act and Regulations

e) Have demonstrated outstanding professional competence in procurement work.

f) Knowledge in procurement procedures

g) Should possess excellent interpersonal communication skills

h) Proficiency in Ms. Office Suite.

i) Be a team player and uphold collective responsibility.

j) Should have strong work ethic, strong teamwork and communications skills.
